Static Retort – Steam Water Spray™ (SWS)

Steam is directly injected in the bottom of the retort for fast and uniform come-up. Water sprays running over the entire shell length intensely mix the steam and water and create a homogeneous temperature distribution that results in a uniform process throughout the retort. Indirect, sterile cooling via a plate heat exchanger saves water and eliminates the need for water treatment chemicals.

The JBT SuperStatic Retort can sterilize foods such as beans, fruits, vegetables, meat, soups, and pet food. With that in mind, the technology built into the JBT SuperStatic Retort manages the efficient use of heat through out the sterilization process to allow for maximized throughput and reduced stem and water consumption. Through a combination of the steam boost valve and process water flow, the retort provides extra heat when it is most needed and manages uniform temperature distribution throughout the process. The high efficiency heat exchanger is able to quickly transfer heat out of the final product, reducing cooling times. The JBT SuperStatic has shown a reduction in come-up time of up to 30% and cooling time reduction of up to 34%, allow your operations to be more efficient.

Hybrid Layer Pad

A technology break-through for Super-Agi™ agitating retorts, the Hybrid Layer Pad is specifically designed to securely hold irregularly shaped bottles or containers during rocking or agitating. Containers look as good after the process as when they first entered the retort.

Low Energy Suction System

A technology break-through for static Steam Water Spray (SWS) retorts, our Low Energy Suction System (LESS) provides food processors more energy savings by employing a new, bolt-on system that reduces retort water volume by up to 45%, thereby significantly decreasing heating and cooling costs per process. LESS can be added to existing retorts as an upgrade kit and is available on new retorts as an option. The low water level system utilizes a suction manifold to spread the suction points out along the entire length of the vessel. This allows for a lower water level to be used during processing without causing pump cavitation.

Target Market

The target market for JBT Efficient Agitation (EA) technology is retortable rigid or flexible packages that contain products which benefit from linear agitation. EA provides recipe-driven linear motion within the retort to add product agitation which leads to faster product heating and cooling. Increased product agitation can also reduce clumping and/or burn-on for some products.

  • Acceleration in the EA Motion Profile is independent of stroke frequency
  • Efficient agitation technology uses a hydraulic platform which creates a flexible motion profile system

SteriTwin™ Coil

For some high quality products, indirect heating is not the most suitable solution. They require direct heating so the product can reach high temperatures very quickly followed by flash cooling to preserve color and vitamin content. In this case products are injected with steam, enabling temperatures of more than 150°C (302°F).Our SteriTwin Coil provides both direct and indirect heating and offers maximum efficiency, productivity and flexibility, with capacities of 6,500 liters per hour (28 gallons/minute) and up to 24,000 liters per hour (105 gallons/minute).

The unique helical configuration of concentric tubes ensures effective thermal treatment combined with efficient heat recovery and optimal product handling. The tubular in-flow processor is used for pasteurizing and sterilizing dairy products, juices and higher viscosity products like tomato sauces and desserts.
