Organic Food Sales Boom

The organic food industry is surging. Continued growth is forecasted for the sector and if you needed further proof that the market for organics is poised for even greater growth, look at Amazon’s recent purchase of Whole Foods.

According to the Organic Consumers Association, a recent survey noted 40 percent of Americans said organic food will be a bigger part of their diet within one year and 63 percent buy organic foods at least some of the time.

Organic food sales accounted for about $47 billion in 2016, or about 5.3 percent of total food sales in the U.S.

Organic meat and poultry sales are on the rise as well growing to $991 million in 2016, over 17 percent from 2015 numbers. That puts sales of organic protein on a glide path to reach over $1 billion in 2017.

Some sectors of the organic food market have showed even more remarkable growth. Organic dips and salsas surged 41 percent in 2016, totaling over $57 million.
