This Job Applicant Privacy Notice (the “Notice”) describes how John Bean Technologies Corporation or its subsidiary or affiliate that has posted the position for which you have applied (“JBT”), collects, processes, stores, and uses the personal information about you necessary to consider your application for employment at JBT.

This Notice applies to all personal information that you submit through JBT’s Careers Site (“Careers Site”) and further communications to facilitate your application for a position within JBT, and also personal information that may be provided by third parties as further described below. Please read and accept this Notice before submitting personal information to JBT.

You are not required to provide any personal information to JBT, but failing to do so may result in our inability to process your application properly, or at all.

Types of Personal Information We Collect

JBT generally collects the following categories of personal information in the course of the recruiting and hiring process:

  • Your full name, address, contact details, including email address and telephone numbers, and voluntary demographic information provided by you.
  • Information about your educational background, employment history and job interest.
  • Details of your educational and professional qualifications, skills, achievements and experience.
  • Information about your current level of remuneration, including benefit entitlements.
  • Information you submit in résumés / CVs, letters, writing samples, or other written materials necessary for evaluation of employment.
  • Data generated by interviewers and recruiters based on interactions with you.
  • Any test scores in respect of aptitude tests, which you complete at JBT’s requests.
  • Information about your entitlement to work in the country where the position is located.
  • Audiovisual information, such as information collected via call recordings, recorded meetings, videos, photographs, and CCTV footage.
  • Network activity information, such as interactions with our portals, websites, applications, or advertisements, and social media sites.
  • Other information otherwise related to your application for employment at the Company.


Notwithstanding the above, we may process criminal convictions data or equal opportunities monitoring information from you, including information about your gender, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, health, medical condition, disability and religion or politic beliefs related data only if the local laws of the territory where the job position is based require us to do so.

When you provide us with information about a reference or other third party as part of your application or submission, it is your sole responsibility to obtain the consent of that third party before you provide this information to us.

Why We Collect Your Personal Information

When you apply for a position at JBT, we will need to collect and process personal information about you necessary for the recruiting and hiring process. Your personal information will be utilized by JBT for the following purposes if and to the extent permitted under applicable law:

  • Assessing your qualifications for employment for the role for which you are applying;
  • Assessing your suitability for employment for future roles that may become available;
  • Performing recruitment related administrative functions;
  • Communication with you about your job application;
  • Performing background checks and screening as permitted by applicable laws;
  • Complying with government reporting requirements (when applicable); and
  • Performing analysis of our applicant pool based on the recruiting information you provide to better understand who is applying to positions at JBT.

How We Collect Your Personal Information

JBT collects and records the personal information that you submit through the Careers Site, directly to our personnel in written form (in paper form or electronically), or through verbal information provided in interviews or otherwise, which may be recorded electronically or manually. In addition, if and to the extent permitted by applicable law, further information about you will come from other forms of assessments, such as public social profile and aptitude tests. JBT also obtains certain information from third parties, such as references supplied by former employers and/or recruiting agencies.

Whom We Disclose Your Personal Information To

JBT uses iCIMS, Inc.’s (“iCIMS”) Recruiting Platform to process the recruiting and hiring information as provided by you. The iCIMS Recruiting Platform is accessed through JBT’s Career Site.

JBT may transmit or share your personal information with its subsidiaries, and its affiliates for the above listed purposes. JBT’s subsidiaries, affiliates and third-party agents are only given access to (or are allowed to collect on JBT’s behalf) the information they need in relation to the above purposes. They have no independent rights to your personal information, and they have agreed to protect the confidentiality and security of this information.

JBT may also share personal information about you with selected service providers or consultants acting on our behalf, such as recruitment agencies or third parties who carry out reference and background checks on behalf of JBT if and to the extent permissible by applicable law. JBT will take reasonable steps to ensure that those third parties take appropriate measures to protect the confidentiality and security of personal information.

Your personal information may also be shared with a competent public authority, government, regulatory or fiscal agency where it is necessary to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation to which JBT is subject to or as permitted by applicable local law.

Where We Transfer Your Personal Information

As JBT is a global business, any personal information may need to be transferred between locations around the world. JBT may process your personal information in the United States or in such other location(s) as JBT reasonably deems appropriate and JBT may move that information from one place to another, including, but not limited to, places in which the law regarding personal information that applies in your current or home jurisdiction do not apply. In these circumstances, appropriate measures will be put in place to ensure the protection of your personal information and, where required, the necessary authorizations for the transfers will be obtained from the relevant authorities in compliance with applicable law.

Ensuring Accuracy of Your Personal Information

JBT takes reasonable steps to ensure that information you provide to us is maintained in an accurate and complete manner. We provide you with the ability to examine your personal information as part of the online application process and to make changes by editing, deleting, or appending your personal information you provide through the Careers Site. It is your responsibility to review your personal information and ensure its accuracy. In addition, if you wish to make any changes to your personal information you may do so at any time by logging into the Careers Site.

Your Understanding and Agreement

When you submit a job application to JBT, you signify your understanding and agreement to all of the following terms: (1) the application is not an offer of employment and by accepting your application, JBT does not guarantee that you will be offered a job; (2) misrepresentation or omission of material information from your application and/or resume submitted to JBT may result in rejection of your application; (3) your personal information will be included and processed in the iCIMS Recruiting Platform, which is a database hosted and maintained by a third party service provider; (4) your personal information will be transferred to countries outside the country where you reside; and (5) your personal information will be disclosed to JBT’s subsidiaries, affiliates and third party services providers as required in the course of the recruitment process.

Changes to this Job Applicant Privacy Notice

JBT reserves the right to update and make changes to this Notice and to its practices in handling personal information to the extent permitted by applicable law. Unless otherwise required by applicable law, any changes to this Notice will become effective upon the posting of the updated Notice on the Careers Site. You can determine when the Notice has been updated by referring to the “Last Updated” legend on the top of this Statement. By continuing to use the Careers Site or submitting any information in writing or electronically following a change or update to the Notice, you will be deemed to have agreed to all such changes.

Supplemental Job Applicant Notice for EEA and UK Residents

This Supplemental Job Applicant Notice for EEA and UK Residents (“Supplemental EEA/UK Notice”) applies to the processing of your personal information (“Personal Data”) if you are located in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom.

How We Collect Your Personal Data

JBT collects this information in various ways during the application and recruitment process.

JBT collects and records the personal information that you submit through the Careers Site, directly to our personnel in written form (in paper form or electronically), or through verbal information provided in interviews or otherwise, which may be recorded electronically or manually.

In addition, in some cases, JBT collects Personal Data about you from third parties, in accordance with local labor law, with your consent or to protect the legitimate interests of JBT or a third party, such as references supplied by former employers and/or recruiting agencies. If and to the extent permitted by applicable law, further information about you will come from other forms of assessments, such as public social profile and aptitude tests.  

If you do not provide any Personal Data

Where we require Personal Data to comply with legal or contractual obligations, then provision of such data is mandatory: if such data is not provided, then we will not be able to complete your recruitment process, or to meet obligations placed on us. In all other cases, provision of requested personal data is optional.

Our employment decisions are not based on automated decision-making.

How We Protect Your Personal Data

We take the security of your Personal Data seriously. We have internal policies and controls in place to ensure that your Personal Data is not lost, accidentally destroyed, misused or disclosed, and is not accessed except by our employees in the proper performance of their duties.

JBT stores your Personal Data gathered in the course of the recruitment process in the iCIMS Recruitment Platform. iCIMS is also committed to protection of your Personal Data. Finally, if we engage third parties to process personal data on our behalf, this is done on the basis of written instructions, a commitment to confidentiality and an obligation to take appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure data security.

How Long We Keep Your Personal Data

JBT will only store your Personal Data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including legal, accounting and reporting requirements.

If your application is successful, the Personal Data collected as part of the new recruitment process will be transferred to your personnel file. In this case, we will inform you by means of a new privacy policy, which will set out the details of the processing of your Personal Data in an employment relationship, including the periods for which your Personal Data will be stored.

If your application is unsuccessful and unless otherwise required by applicable law, JBT will hold your Personal Data for no longer than three (3) years after the recruitment process or assessment has been completed. Laws may require JBT to retain certain information for specific periods.

When you have indicated in your application that you reside in Germany: If your application is unsuccessful, we will delete your data after six (6) months at the latest, unless you expressly agree that your Personal Data will be kept for a longer period in order to be considered for another suitable position within a period of six (6) months. However, we do not keep your details on file if you do not want us to do this. We provide you with options to choose whether your details should be kept for future recruitment processes or not.

Data Subjects Rights under the GDPR / UK GDPR

You have certain rights when it comes to the Personal Data.

These rights include:

(1) the right to access your Personal Data and to receive a copy of it (Art. 15 (UK) GDPR);
(2) the right to correct any information that is inaccurate (Art. 16 (UK) GDPR);
(3) the right to withdraw your consent at any time (Art. 7(3) (UK) GDPR);
(4) the right to have your information erased (Art. 17 (UK) GDPR);
(5) the right to restrict or suppress information under certain circumstances (Art. 18 (UK) GDPR);
(6) the right to portability of your Personal Data (Art. 20 (UK) GDPR);  
(7) the right to object to the processing of your Personal Data if we process your Personal Data on the basis of legitimate interests (Art. 21(1) (UK) GDPR); and
(8) the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority (Art. 77(1) (UK) GDPR). This Supplemental Job Applicant Notice for California Residents (“Supplemental California Notice”) applies to the processing of your personal information (“Personal Information”) if you are a resident of California. This Supplemental California Notice is intended to satisfy our applicable notice requirements under the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) (Cal Civ. How Long We Keep Your Personal Information

JBT will keep your Personal Information as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for the collection. Generally, Personal Information is retained for the duration of our recruitment and hiring process or continuing relationship with you, plus any legally required record or data retention period and/or any period of time necessary to exercise our legal rights.

Use of Sensitive Personal Information

Our collection, use, and disclosure of sensitive personal information is generally limited to what is reasonable and proportionate for the following purposes:

  • to comply with our legal, regulatory and reporting obligations;
  • to make reasonable accommodations where necessary;
  • to verify the information you provide to us;
  • as otherwise necessary to carry out our functions as an employer;
  • in support of our equal opportunity and diversity and inclusion efforts (on a voluntary basis);
  • where necessary to protect the health and safety of an individual; and
  • to protect and take action against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal actions, security incidents.

JBT does not use or disclose your sensitive personal information for purposes except as described herein (and as permitted pursuant to Cal. Code Regs. tit. 11, § 7027(l) (2022)).

Your Rights

As a California resident, you have the following privacy rights regarding your Personal Information:

  • The right to know and right to access the Personal Information we have collected about you, including the categories of Personal Information, the categories of sources from which the Personal Information is collected, the business or commercial purpose for collecting, selling, or sharing Personal Information, the categories of third parties to whom the business discloses Personal Information, and the specific pieces of Personal Information the business has collected about you;
  • The right to delete Personal Information that we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions;
  • The right to correct inaccurate Personal Information that we maintain about you;
  • The right of portability, or right to have us transfer your Personal Information to other persons or entities upon your request;
  • The right to limit the use of your sensitive personal information if we decide in the future to use such information for purposes other than the purposes listed above; and
  • The right not to be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.

You can exercise your privacy rights by submitting a request to us by emailing us at: [email protected]; calling us at 1-866-973-0846; or asking our Human Resources department for a written request form. To protect the security of your Personal Information, we will require you to provide us with identifying information for you such as personal email address, personal telephone number, employee identification number, and/or other information that we can match with the Personal Information we have collected about you to verify your identity. 

You may use an authorized agent to request access to or deletion of your Personal Information. We will require your authorized agent to provide us with either (1) a power of attorney authorizing the authorized agent to act on your behalf or (2) your written authorization permitting the authorized agent to request access to your Personal Information on your behalf. Further, we will require you or your authorized agent to provide us with identifying information to verify your identity.  We may also require you to either verify your own identity directly with us or directly confirm with us that you provided the authorized agent permission to submit the request.

Within 10 days of receiving your request to know, we will confirm receipt of your request and provide information about how we will process your request. Generally, we will respond to your request within 45 days. If we need more time to respond, we will provide you with notice and an explanation of the reason we need more time to respond. We may deny your request if we cannot verify your identity or are legally permitted to deny your request. If we deny your request, we will explain the basis for the denial, provide or delete any personal information that is not subject to the denial, and refrain from using the personal information retained for any purpose other than permitted by the denial. We will maintain a record of your request and our response for 24 months.
